Livin' On The Edge

DAILY PROMPT: ADVENTURE
GENRE: NARRATIVE/ MONOLOGUE

I believe that life is what you make it. If you sit at home all day on your fat ass, doing nothin' but watching television and maybe standing up to get some soda or something, you ain't gunna be happy with your life. Now, say for example y'went and got your degree and everythin' and y'made lots of money, and took weekends off to do something fun, y'know? Like, hell, go caving or white water rafting or something. If you do somethin' like that, you'll enjoy life. Like those commercials say, you gotta put some spice in your life, right? I mean, like, say you decide to hike some thirty or so miles up in th' Catskill mountains, right? So you go an' buy all yer gear and shit and get way way up in all the forests and stuff and then you realize you're lost. Six weeks later you find civilization again, muddy and starvin' and whatever else you managed to get while lost, but six weeks after that man, it was a Goddamn adventure, am I right? After the shock's worn off and shit, hell it was just another adventure, and you tell all your high-rising bastard co-workers that it was just one more Goddamn adventure to add to your list, even though y'were scared shitless and damn near died out in th' wild tangles of nature. After all, y'don't deal with shit like that in yer high-rankin' office, now do ya? Bastard. Adventure my ass. Let me tell ya, and this is the truth, you ain't never had no adventure, boy. You just like to make it out like ya did.

I'm so clean; too bad I can't get all the dirt off of me.

Time
stands still
and the world falls away.
Echoes and light
fall around me
illuminating
your face.
Those
four letters
bounce around
on my tongue
threatening
and bubbling
trying to escape.
The words
don't come and
Time
stands still.
Marked,
vindicated,
I stand
bound in chains as
Time
stands still
and does not wait.
Time
rushing
running
racing
past me
past you
out of the past
and into the future as
Time
stands still.
